My pal, Oscar the Cat, crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.
It’s sad, as he was a cat with a lot of life experience behind him. Come to think of it, he was in my age group and this sort of thing makes me feel my own mortality. It always happens like that doesn’t it? You find your own generation is slipping away.
You ask yourself how much longer you have. It could have been me! (One should always have one’s affairs in order in case of an unexpected demise).
The world of the internet and instant global communication has opened up grand new vistas, I would never have met Oscar in the normal course of events. We live not only in different countries but in different hemispheres.
You’ve heard of internet dating? I don’t indulge in things like this myself of course. My little nip’n'tuck of a few years back certainly doused any fires of romance in that department but I’m still a worldly cat. And a Geek Cat. So was Oscar.
Oscar and I became pals via Twitter. We may have lived thousands of miles from each other, but I felt we were brothers. I know – all cats are brothers and sisters – but Oscar and I shared a couple of jokes, chatted to each other and complained about the price of fish. It was thanks to Oscar that I met other cats, he had a way of attracting a crowd around himself, a way of making us all feel part of a big family.
There is an empty place among the twitter anipals today.

We will all miss him so,it makes it easier for all of us to know how much he was loved by all of us.
Such a lovely outpouring of love for Oscar. We will all miss him, but he will somehow always still be here too. That’s the very special thing about cats – once they get into your heart they stay forever.
Very nice message about Oscar. I am still in shock. I think this cat was one of the special ones on Twitter. Not that all cats aren’t special – but Oscar was so envolved and did so much to connect us through his messages and website. Oscar – we miss you. May you have buckets of fish and many fields to run in Rainbow Bridge.

I didn’t know Oscar, but I’m sorry to hear of his passing. I’ve never met a cat I didn’t like.
