Here’s a zoo in China <a href="http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/photo/2010-11/23/content_11598097.htm"target="_blank">looking for a female white tiger to mate with their resident mutated male

White Tigers are not a Species!

White tigers are freaks. It’s not the role of a Zoo to show two headed calves and white tigers.

It makes me so sad when I know how few tigers are left in the world that, of all places, a Zoo is trying to breed a mutation.

Albinos of every species have the same visual pathway abnormality found in white tigers. They’re cross-eyed, because of a disruption in the optic chiasm. Because of this visual pathway abnormality, by which some of the optic nerves are routed to the wrong side of the brain, white tigers have a problem with spatial orientation, and bump into things until they learn to compensate. White tigers can’t see as well as normal tigers and suffer from photophobia, like all albinos.

Other genetic problems include shortened tendons of the forelegs, club foot, kidney problems, arched or crooked backbone and twisted neck.

Why try to breed cats so that they have these problems?

Because people think they look cute!

Poor little Meow! OK, he’s not so little, he’s a big fat cat.

But who made him fat? You can’t tell me he chose to be this huge super size. In any case, Meow is now in a shelter – and on a diet.

He’s just 2 years old and weighs 18.2 kilos – about 40 lbs.

Meow’s 87-year-old owner could no longer take care of him, so the pet was turned over to a shelter in southeastern New Mexico which called the Santa Fe shelter for help.

Meow has been placed with a foster family and he’s on a special diet to he can start shedding some of that monstrous flab. The goal is for him to lose at least 4 and 1/2 kilos (10 lbs) so he can be put up for adoption.

Stick at it, Meow!

What about this little black neko? It’s about time that someone recognised the supreme good fortune attached to a black cat.

When you combine the black cat with the maneki neko image, you have double the good luck!

What’s a Maneki Neko?
I wondered myself for some time. She is a Beckoning Cat, a Happy Cat, and that little paw is calling you in. She wants you to come into the establishment that parades her. Usually it’s a shop, some sort of business, and the maneki neko calls customers inside.

I like the look of these little cats, beckoning in good will.

There’s a story about the first cat who gave her name to all the ones you see today in shop windows.

In the olden days, a Japanese Feudal Lord was waiting for a thunderstorm to pass him by when he noticed a little cat beckoning to him. <a href="http://www.squidoo.com/beckoning-cat"target="_blank">Read the rest of the story — The Legend of the Goutokuji Temple
