Barney, the Cemetery Cat, went to the Bridge at the age of twenty last week. He has now been laid to rest in a small, secluded spot at the place where he spent his entire life brightening up the lives of hundreds during their darkest moments.
This was no easy job. Not all of us could dedicate our whole self to alleviating the anguish of others. Cats are pretty good this, we always console you in your grief but to constantly do this, day after day, you would have to be a very special cat. A cat like Barney in fact.
Barney spent his days walking the grounds of St Sampson’s Cemetery in Guernsey selflessly giving comfort to grieving loved ones during funerals and graveyard visits. Whatever the weather, he was there to make quiet, soothing sounds, gently rub around a leg and lean his head on a knee.
His comforting presence will be sorely missed.
See you at the Bridge, Barney!
