Honey went to the Rainbow Bridge today.
For almost 30 years, Honey lived at the Melbourne Zoo but the last few months she spent most of her time away from visitors, cuddled up in her night den. She was sick, you see. It’s what all of us animals do when we’re sick, we keep to ourselves.
Here’s Honey in a happier time, enjoying a chilled ice block last Summer.
The Keepers had been watching her closely and, at the start of October, the Vet visited her daily. On Tuesday a difficult decision was made.
Honey was 29 years old and had been suffering from arthritis of her joints, but recently a large tumour was found on her chest. The decision was it would not be in Honey’s best interests to perform major surgery to remove her tumour.
