See me and you’ll be lucky. Not that I particularly care either way, but it pleases people to tell stories. Tortoiseshell cats are good luck, such as in Ireland, where they bring their owners good fortune. In Japan, we protect ships from bad storms and shipwrecks, and even ghosts. If you don’t fancy storms, wrecks and ghoulies, keep your eye out for me.
English lore holds that warts could be healed by rubbing a male tortie’s tail during the month of May but, as only about 1 in 3,000 tortoiseshell cats are male, you’ll be stuck with your warts forever. Again, I don’t particularly care.
